"The location of the hotel is in the city center."

"Get the Mozart Suite"
one of the best rooms in a long time. its an upgrade but well worth it. roomy, huge tub, big windows that open up to the street. NH's need better internet, however.

"Overall decent"
I stayed at this property for two nights. The rooms fairly nice and modern, albeit a little bit on the small side. I was given a nice quiet room at the back. Staff was ok, reasonably friendly without really overwhelming you with warmth. In terms of downsides the location is only handy if you have a car or for some reason have to stay near the main train station (the lovely old town is a fair 30 min walk, though picking up the tram will reduce that trip to 10 min)/ Also didn't like that wi-fi was subject to charge (doesn't come cheap at around 10 euros/24 hours). The building is a little bit worn out but perfectly fine. Breakfast was good. Would probably stay here again.

"Like being at home, but with a bigger bedroom and someone else cleaning."
Let's deal with the negatives first. The city centre is a distance away, but regular trams go past the front door or it's a pleasant half-hour walk alongside the canal. There is also little in the way of facilities - no room service, evening meals or concierge. But who wants to stay in the hotel all day? Think of this place as more like serviced apartments than a hotel and you'll enjoy staying in a room bigger, better and cheaper than you imagined possible. The suites, for example, are the size of a penthouse apartment at a quarter the price they'd cost elsewhere. It's clean, tidy and the beds are comfortable. if you're on holiday this is the perfect location. It'sa 7/8 minute stroll from the main station, and in that area there are several good bars (including one with over 150 beers) and a range of places to eat anything from an upmarket three course meal to a late-night kebab. The staff are friendly, helpful and above all fit in with the informality of the place. If you want five star luxury and your every whim catered for, this isn't the place for you. If you want a comfortable base for touring Ghent or the surrounding area, it's perfect.

"Lovely and clean, very good value"
We stayed here for one night in August as part of a 3 week road trip round Europe. We really liked this hotel (especially after our previous night in Bruges in a 'charming and authentic' local hotel - for that read small poky room with a musty small and saggy bed, horrid flowery curtains that didn't close properly, towels that had seen better days and a boiling hot room as no air con and a window that wouldn't open properly......). The NH Ghent St Pieters was a refreshing change with plain and simple rooms, clean crisp sheets, air conditioning, black-out curtains, with a shiny new clean bathroom and nice big fat towels - just what we wanted. Maybe I am boring, but I like my comforts on holiday! We got a much better night's sleep here, and for us that is the main point of a hotel - a bed for the night. We booked it in advance on the internet and paid 55 euros, excellent value compared with many other hotels we found. The staff were excellent and had a room ready for us when we arrived at 11 am. The complaints I have seen on here about the distance from the old town did not affect us - we are young and fit and perfectly capable of managing a 30 minute walk on the flat. I think that was why the price was such good value as it's out of town a bit. It was pleasant walk along the canal into the town, and walking's good for you! Might be an issue if you are elderly or infirm perhaps, but I believe there are taxis about. There is also a restaurant near to the hotel if you don't want to go back into town in the evening. We did, however, and spent a pleasant early evening before dinner watching the world go by in a cafe on the canal banks. We paid to park our car (got a space on the road directly outside the hotel) a special rate of 3 euros. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a good nights sleep and lovely clean rooms, just bear in mind the distance to the town if that bothers you. As an aside, the only annoying thing about our trip to Belgium was the refusal to give tap water in any of the restaurants. One place (the Brasserie Graslei in town) gave us a jug of tap water, then came back 5 mins later and the waitress said 'my boss has told me you can't have this and must buy mineral water' and took it away! Very greedy. I do not drink bottled water on environmental grounds so was very annoyed by this. We would have stayed for desserts and coffee and spent another 20 euros if they had not done this, and we still didn't buy the mineral water so they lost out completely! This happened wherever we went in both Ghent and Bruges, it was most odd. The minute we got into France, it wasn't a problem. Please email me if you have any questions.
