The Lodge ***

"Very decent hotel"

"wonderful hotel"
Wonderful! I had work near Leuven and my host suggested The Lodge. My husband came along so we made it a vacation. I cannot say enough about how excellent our stay was. All the staff are courteous an help in any way possible. The facility is beautiful. The our room was very large and overlooked a large courtyard private for the guests. The gardens, plantings, atmosphere was inspiring and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was extremely generous. The location is a short walk south of Leuven, along a tree lined street bordering the Arenberg Castle now belonging to the university. From our hotel, you see across to the castle and grounds, a short walk across the street, e.g. 50 feet. There, you enter the campus and woods with a magnificent bicycle path--we rode for 3 hours one day. The hotel had bicycles which they said they were not upkeeping and were going to discontinue. TO THE HOTEL: PLEASE KEEP THE BICYCLES. One reason we stayed there is because of previous reports on the bicycles. To had easy access to the bikes and go across to the forest really made the trip. Plus, seems like everyone in Leuven bicycles everywhere. If we had to rent a bike someplace, that would have been a great problem as we had no extra time due to my business meetings. Others have written of the spartan modern decor in the rooms. Only ask and you shall receive. Easy to get more towels and pillows. A few extra lamps in our second floor room might have been nice as it was a tad dark, but being May, and light so late, it did not really matter. Really, it was great. And typical of Belgium, everything was clean and spotless! In any case, I would give this hotel a 9 out of 10 for my personal scale. Quiet, charming, wonderful staff, beauty everywhere, convenient, a close walk or take the bus to the town, with the ability to relax outside in the private gardens and courtyard feeling like you are at a home and not a hotel; a 20 minute walk to the town; a beautiful town with cafes and students; bicycles to explore all the forests around the area; all buses stop at the train station. It could not be easier. We want to return to Leuven someday to bike the other forests a little ways away, and enjoy more of this wonderful, beautiful city with the combined flavors or one of the world's most famous universities.

"Excellent hotel"
Wonder why this is not classified as a hotel, however it is a great place. An old farm, converted into hotel. All rooms different and very very nice. But take premium room.
