Amfora ***

"Could be better"
We stayed here over the New Year. Our bedroom was on the top floor (no lift). We were given a room to the rear of the hotel to avoid the noise that may be experienced for those rooms at the front. Room was comfortable, but no tea/coffee facilities, and no carpets. We ate out, so didn't check out the food. We didn't take the breakfast either, as we felt it overpriced at 14 Euros for a continental. Parking was in the square opposite, where available.

"Quiet, comfortable, and friendly - excellent food."
Stayed here in mid-November, a couple of days after Armistice Day, in Room 2, which is a large room (with tremendously high ceilings) on the first floor overlooking the main square. Were a little concerned that this might be noisy, but well before 10 p.m. all traffic stopped and we had an incredibly peaceful night's sleep. Also no problems with the parking - left the car in the square, visible from our window, as we arrived on Sunday afternoon (no charges on Sundays) and left by 9 a.m. on Monday morning, when meter charges begin. Room and bathroom comfortable and warm on a very cold night. Had cosy drinks in the bar before dinner and then a wonderful meal in the dining room (this has a beautiful chandelier, one of many throughout the hotel) and marble fireplace - service friendly and attentive. We normally stay in Ieper but this made a pleasant change if you don't mind the fact that Poperinge is a much smaller, quieter place. A good base for visiting Talbot House which we'd meant to do on previous occasions but had never had the time!

"Noisy - lack of sleep"
This hotel is located in the perfect position for the centre of Poperinge. Easy parking right outside in the square, though you have to pay and display. The staff are absolutely first class, a credit to the hotel. The rooms seem very good. Continental breakfast for 14e - mmm! The negative - my wife has just had knee replacements and the lack of lift, plus steep stairs in the bedroom as well has set her back big time. Three days there has resulted in problems at home, not to mention the journey home. But worse, room 5. The hotel is located right next door to a property that likes to play loud music - I mean loud. Imagine a car parked outside your house with windows open blasting the music. This was right next to our bedroom wall and it went on until 2am - not good when we had to be out by 8am for business. The hotel and staff were good, but I would not recommend it. Maybe another room is better!

"Simply wonderful"
This place was awesome. We were cycling across Belgium and heavy rain forced us to make an unscheduled stop in Poperinge, so glad we did, this place had it all - food, ambience, hospitality and luxury. Thanks so much! We loved it, and will certainly be returning.

"Good Hotel Very good food."
We spent three nights at this hotel, the welcome was friendly and my case was carried to my room for me. The room was very clean and well appointed. The only drawback is the lack of a lift when the room is on the top floor but this is common with other hotels we have stayed at in the past in Poperinge. The breakfast was very good and dinner was excellent even though most main meals come with chips, at least they were very good chips.
